A major part of a slave's culture is his/her religion. First generation slaves generally held on to their African beliefs, of which there are thousands. As time went on, a large percentage of slaves were Catholic. The Slaves drew upon many religious influences from Judaism, Islam, and primarily Christianity. They also incorporated traditional african religions into this "New Form Of Christianity."
